Tailgaters, bird flippers and road ragers, Oh my! Yep, the bad drivers always seem to get the attention. Don’t let that distract you from the fact that New Jersey is the third safest state to drive in the United States. The survey is based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety from 2018. The third place spot may be due to the state’s strict laws on phone usage while driving, along with laws that make it longer for a new driver to get on the road unsupervised. Neighboring New York state came is fifth place and was credited with laws that crack down on traffic violations.
