COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 37 people at New Jersey Veterans Home. The facility located in Paramus has since had a special visitor to honor those lost.
Boy Scout Alex Saldana stood outside the front of the nursing home to play taps where he continues to do so for as long as he can. The 13-year-old shown in the video below revealed it is part of his Eagle Scout project to play for the fallen service members.
“I’m hoping it will start to give them hope that things will get better,” Saldana told NBC News. “That they’re not forgotten.”
NBC News revealed that 10 percent of the 1,504 deaths in New Jersey have been residents of nursing homes or long-term care facilities.
It has been reported that New Jersey Veterans Home had to stop taking on new residents as of March 23. In addition, the National Guard is being sent to the location due to dozens of staff members testing positive.
