President Trump’s reelection campaign is using the announcement of an impeachment inquiry to raise money. Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday that a formal House impeachment inquiry into the president was being launched. Just hours later, a joint fundraising committee authorized by Trump and the Republican National Committee sent out an email to supporters implying it had a transcript of a phone call between Trump and the president of Ukraine. A call between the two leaders in July is the subject of a whistleblower complaint alleging Trump urged the president of Ukraine to help his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, investigate Joe Biden’s son Hunter.
The fundraising email said, “I’ve done nothing wrong, trust me, you’ll see the transcript.” The email also warned that “Nervous Nancy has gone too far,” and announced the formation of an “Official Impeachment Defense Task Force.”
