As we continue to break down playoff scenarios for WCTC’s area teams, here’s a look at two more sections:
North Jersey, Section 2 – Group 4
Who’s in: Only one team from our area is on the inside of the playoff bubble right now, and that’s Colonia (4-3). Though the Patriots are the 7th in the section, they have more than one team behind them in the field of 16. They actually sit in 12th overall, with a UPR of 12.4. The closest team to them is Roxbury, which has a UPR of 17.6. Behind them are Orange and North Hunterdon, both at 17.8 It’s unlikely any of those three teams can catch Colonia. None of those two teams have any win possibilities with mammoth power points. It would appear Colonia has clinched a playoff spot.
Central Jersey – Group 2
Who’s in: As of now, Bernards looks squarely in the playoffs, right in the middle of CJ2. The Mountaineers are typically a victim of their schedule, playing Group 1 and 2 schools while other teams in their section play larger schools. This year, they’re actually ranked higher in power points average than on the Born Power Index side.
Bernards is sitting in 4th, lined up for a first-round home game. That could change, depending on what happens the last couple of weeks. Bernards has 2-4 Johnson and 1-6 Plainfield this week and next. They should win those games and hold serve. The question is, can anyone sneak up and steal the fourth spot? Bernards has a UPR of 10.2. Shore is in 5th at 11.4, while Delran is 6th at 13.6. Shore has road games at Keansburg and Keyport, both 3-3. Delran has Northern Burlington and Princeton. Neither team seem to be able to make up enough ground based on their Born numbers, and the ratings of their opponents.
