New Jersey U.S. Senator Robert Menendez is officially launching his re-election bid for a third term. He is hosting a kickoff rally tomorrow in his hometown of Union City, and then a separate event in South Jersey. Menendez, who had been accused of accepting donations and gifts from a Florida doctor and friend Salomon Melgen in exchange for political influence, had his case end in a mistrial last year.
The Justice Department recently announced that it would not re-try the 64-year-old Democrat after further looking at the case. Menendez was elected to the Senate in 2005 and is up for re-election this November, with a primary election set for June 5th.
