PATH Ridership Soars During Penn Station Summer Repairs

PATH ridership is soaring. Officials with the Port Authority say data shows the average weekday ridership in July jumped nine-point-two-percent from last year, carrying the highest number of monthly passengers in its entire history. Officials note that six-percent of the weekday increase consisted of New Jersey Transit ticket holders cross-honored at the Hoboken, 33rd Street and World Trade Center stations as a result of Amtrak's major Penn Station summer repair work. They say the strategy of adding trains and deploying additional volunteer staff to the cross-honoring stations has helped ease commuting burdens for PATH customers and affected NJ Transit passengers.
