Man Charged With Driving Into Crowd Has First Court Appearance

The man charged with killing a woman protesting a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia and injuring 19 has made his first court appearance.  James Fields of Ohio was charged with one count of second-degree murder and three counts of malicious wounding.  The judge set no bond in the case today. Fields made his appearance by video conference in Charlottesville General District Court.

Fields was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly drove a car into a crowd of people and two other vehicles, speeding away from the scene.  Heather Heyer later died from her injuries.  She was 32.
