WCTC will bring listeners play-by-play of three of the four area teams' Championship Games as they vie for state titles, including Bridgewater-Raritan, Middlesex and Somerville.
Our coverage begins on Thursday, November 30th at approximately 8:15 pm. We'll join the North Jersey, Section 2-Group 5 Championship Game in progress, immediately following Rutgers Women's Basketball vs. North Carolina State. It'll be the third straight year #3 Bridgewater-Raritan and #1 Westfield will meet in the finals. The Blue Devils won both prior matchups, and haven't lost in 36 games; they've been undefeated heading into the finals all three seasons. The Panthers are 9-2, coming off a 27-6 win at #2 Piscataway. Westfield is 11-0 after beating Plainfield 37-7 on Thanksgiving. Mike Pavlichko and Max Scheiner will call the action, with Dom Savino on the sideline and bringing you postgame reaction.
The remaining three area teams play on Saturday. Our coverage begins at 1 pm with Mike Pavlichko on an abbreviated, 30-minuute edition of Football USA presented by St. Peter's University Hospital live from High Point Solutions Stadium at Rutgers. We'll have updates on the Central Jersey-Group 5 Championship game between #2 South Brunswick and #1 Manalapan. At 1:30, we'll gave way to Rutgers Women's Basketball vs. Siena, which tips at 2 pm, but we'll have periodic updates throughout the game. The Braves are 11-0 and ranked No. 4 in the state by NJ.com. The Vikings are 10-1 after beating North Brunswick 42-20 on Thanksgiving Eve.
Immediately following the Rutgers-Siena game, we'll go up to Kean University in Union for the Central Jersey-Group 1 Championship game between #4 Middlesex and #7 Point Pleasant Beach. That game kicks at 4, with the Blue Jays coming in at 9-1, their only loss to South River. They knocked off top-seed Burlington City on the road in Friday night's semifinals. The Garnet Gulls (7-4) upset #3 Bound Brook in the semifinals.
Following the game, Mike Pavlichko is back on Football USA, with postgame reaction from Middlesex-Point Beach, and previewing the upcoming Central Jersey-Group 3 title game. At 7, Mike Pavlichko and Dom Savino will have all the play-by-play as #2 Somerville takes on top-seed Rumson-Fair Haven. It's a rematch of their semfinal game last year, where the Bulldogs handed the Pioneers their first loss of the season. The Pioneers are 10-1 this season, while 9-1 Rumson still must play Shore Regional on Thanksgiving. The Bulldogs have won four straight sectional titles -- two in Group 2, then the last two in Group 3.
