What Is SEER?

If you've been in the market for a new air conditioning system recently, there's a good chance you've heard the term "SEER" mentioned at one point or another, but what exactly does it mean?

In air conditioning lingo, it's an acronym representing your system's Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. The higher the number, the more energy-efficient your cooling system is. Starting at the minimum of 13 and stretching all the way up into the mid-20's now, there are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to selecting the SEER that is right for you. Obviously, as the SEER goes up, so does the price of the equipment, so it is wise to consult a professional and weigh the pros and cons before making a purchase to ensure that you get the most bang for your buck.
