Education officials in Union County are asking the state to stop the opening of a charter school. Officials in the town of Linden allege that the school's application contains fraudulent information about the level of community support and involvement in the school. The Union Arts and Science Charter School is scheduled to open in September with as many as 240 students from Linden and Elizabeth. But Linden officials say many of the petitions purportedly signed by city residents backing the school were bogus. They say the charter school will take some two-point-88-million dollars in funding from the public school budget.
