A former South Amboy woman is sentenced to 30 years in state prison for murdering her son 25 years ago in what was one of New Jersey's most famous cold cases. Michelle Lodzinski's lawyer argued in Middlesex County Court today that Timothy Wiltsey would not want to see a life sentence imposed on his mother. Lodzinski had faced 30 years to life. She had originally claimed five-year-old Timmy had disappeared from a Sayreville carnival. She later said he had been abducted.
The case had gone cold, but was reopened a few years ago following new evidence and a jury convicted Lodzinski of the 1991 murder. Her lawyers are expected to appeal.
